Does Jollibee London food taste the same as food made in Jollibee Philippines?
The short answer is: it depends on what you order.
On this post, I am going to try and distil my experience on getting my hands on some of the menu items from Jollibee London in Earl’s Court, what each food item tastes like and whether it is the same flavour as I remember when I was growing up with Jollibee in the Philippines.
The first attempt was unsuccessful. I turned up to queue at approximately 15:00 last week and was told that were was a ticket system. Turn up between 0800 and 0830 to grab one of the 1500 tickets even if you want to order and eat late at night. Suffice today, it boiled my blood.
This weekend, I decided to try and queue up at around 0830. When I got the store to ask for the ticket from one of the security guard, I was surprised and glad that the stupid ticket system was not in action anymore. It was a good old fashioned queue that operated on a first-come. first served basis. I got to my spot in the queue at approximately 0845.
At this point the queuing was expected to take 1 hour. Realistically it took anywhere between 1 to 3 hours.
Order & Pickup
This time, I was determined to max out the artificial limit of £50 per order per person. An additional restriction was also imposed on the purchase of Chicken Joy bucket: one or two Chicken Joy bucket per order. I ordered at 11:42:07 (the third set of number is for seconds) and it took me a surprising long time to finish the process. I paid up at 11:43:29.
In the end my order was over the limit. £50.23 in total. The guy after me told me his request to go above the limit to £52 was firmly denied. I ordered:
- 1 x 8 piece Chicken Joy bucket
- 4 x Yum burger
- 4 x Yum with cheese burger
- 4 x Spaghetti
- 2 x Chicken burger
- 2 x 2 piece burger steak with rice
During my time at the restaurant, it took approximately 1 hour to 1.5 hours from ordering to picking up your order.
Now, does it actually taste like Jollibee Philippines? Yes. Mostly.
|8 piece Chicken Joy Bucket|
|Yum burger||This is one of the pillars of Jollibee experience. This tastes the same as the one back in the Philippines.|
|Spaghetti||I am not really sure what is in the sauce that makes it super addictive but it definitely tastes the same as back in the Philippines. The only complaint with this product is that you only get 1, 2 or if you are lucky, 3 pieces of hot dog.|
|Chicken burger||This was pretty simple and pretty disappointing. Tasty chicken patty but I prefer the KFC mini-fillet burger.|
|2 piece burger steak with rice||This tastes exactly the same as back in the Philippines. The mushroom, gravy and the burger steak is delicious. I “wolfed” this down.|
|Yum with cheese burger||I deliberately left this till last because this is the most disappointing of all. This product does not taste the same as the one back home in the Philippines. It took me 2 burgers and a lot of chewing to figure this out but its the cheese. The cheese is different! If I were you, I would skip this.|
Definitely worth it the queue. It should go down once the “hype” is finished. It is one of the tastiest fast food that you can have. Skip the chicken burger and the yum burger with cheese in my opinion.
